With patience, dedication and her aunt’s constant motivation, Edith Fernandes decided to start her passion project, Lip Smacking Treats.

When it comes to desserts, it is all about the detail. During preparation, every little thing matters; right from the way the batter is made, the time in the oven, the way you cut it, the way you decorate desserts. If you do deep into detail, it really does take a lot of time to create an edible piece of art.

Edith Fernandes decided to start Lip Smacking Treats when the opportunity arose and she seized it. She is known for her deliciously looking baked goods, especially brownies. When we noticed Edith’s creative takes on all sorts of treats with her latest passion project, Lip Smacking Treats, we knew we had to sit down and have a chat with her.

Tell us a little about yourself. What inspired you to get into baking?

I am a BBA graduate and I reside in Sangolda. Baking runs in the family.

What is the inspiration behind Lip Smacking Treats? How did you come up with the name?

My biggest inspiration is my aunt. I chose a name that would keep lips
smacking and asking for more.


Did you ever get formal training or did you just jump right into business?

No, I am a self-learner. My aunt always has my back and yes nowadays
YouTube can teach you a lot.

Who has been your biggest support system?

My aunt! She always motivates me.

What is the hardest part about being now a professional baker and owning your own business?

I would say the hardest part is being available always since it’s just a start
up and I need to make a spot for myself in the market.


How do you market your products?

Through my Instagram account.

What have been your most satisfying moments in business?

My most satisfying moments are when my customers come for more.

What makes Lip smacking treats unique from the other players in the market?

I would say everyone is unique in their own way.

Which are your best sellers or must try food items?

My best sellers are the brownies.


What skill would you say is most important for you to have in your line of work?

Patience & Dedication.

What are your favourite aspects of being an entrepreneur?

Being your own boss.

How many hours do you work a week and how much time is spent on baking?

My working hours depend on the orders I get. Sometimes I work all-day
and there’s no track of time.


What was the worst baking disaster you ever had, that you still just cannot get over?

Once I forgot to add sugar to a cake mix that was being collected in
2 hours but I somehow managed to bake another one soon.

What advice do you have for other women who want to launch their own business?

Believe in yourself and you will definitely achieve anything in life.

How do you manage all of your personal and business activities?

I prepare a schedule in my mind the previous night and then everything goes smooth the next day.
