Bringing the Bangalore Vibe to HIP-HOP HIZZLE At SORO with DJ Joy

An artist who supports himself with a corporate job. You may see him lead a normal corporate life by the day but as the evening proceeds, DJ Joy would never compromise on his passion. As hectic as it sounds, Joy has been doing this for quite a while now and he says it only gets better. Joy has great taste in music and his parties are filled with energy and zeal. Joy specialises in playing House and Hip-Hop music. Having played at few of the renowned venues in Bangalore like Hard Rock Cafe, Farzi Cafe, Kitty KO, Watsons and Skydeck, DJ Joy has been passionately playing gigs and making his name in the dance music industry. 

We had a few questions about his tight schedule and love for music. Very few can parallelly run two careers and balance it out with fun and dedication. This week DJ Joy brings his set to Goa and here’s what we got to know before seeing him live.

What are some of your favourite genres of music to play? 

Rock, Hip-Hop, House and Disco.

Tell us about the first gig you ever played. What are the milestones since then?

The first gig I played was at Xtreme Sports Bar Bangalore. I was very nervous at thr time but I have a lot of fond memories from this debut gig. I was performing for the first time and all my friends and family members were there to support me. Later, I started my residency with Watsons and now I am playing across other cities including Chennai, Goa, Hyderabad, and Coimbatore.

In Bangalore, I am doing my major gigs at many well renowned venues like SUZY Q, Farzi Cafe, Kitty KO, Skydeck, Sherlocks, Hard Rock Cafe and Watsons. Currently, I have three IP’s running in Bangalore. CROSSXCONNECT Tuesday happens every Tuesday at Watsons Bangalore, Saturday Shuffle TV once a month at Watsons Indiranagar Bangalore and HIP-HOP HIZZLE Bangalore Every Thursday with multiple artists at KOS Koramangala.

What gear do you use for your gigs?

DJ Controller, PIONEER CDJ NEXUS2 2000, DJM 900 NEXUS2, PIONEER DDJ Controller, TRAKTOR X1 Z1, MACHINE MK3, AIAIAI TMA 2 Head Phones.

What does music mean to you? 

Music has always been a way of life and now I have decided to build a career out of it. Music means the whole world to me. Today, I have found an identity because of music, which is DJ Joy.

Which artists did you grow up listening to? 

G&R, MLTR, Aerosmith, Scorpions, Eagles, Firehouse, Metallica, Green Day, Kid Rock, RHCP and many more.

You are a full-time corporate person by the day and an individual producer and DJ by the night. How do you keep yourself spirited throughout the week?

I have always been passionate about music and my mind is so used to the corporate and DJing lifestyle. My passion and art format along with my corporate job really helps pursue my passion. As we all know DJing equipment is very expensive to own and the record pool subscription for music is also expensive. So the corporate jobs helps me with regards to this.

We will be seeing you perform this week in Goa. What can we expect from your show?

I am very enthusiastic about Goa as it has the best musical vibe in the country and I plan to give it my best. Every artist desires to perform in Goa as it has one of the most diverse nightlife crowd in country. I am performing at SORO Goa on Thursday for Hip-Hop Hizzle and it is known for being the best Hip-Hop event in GOA. 

How often do you update your music library? 

Every week.

What would you say is the most rewarding part about being a DJ? 

The most rewarding part about being a DJ is that I get a sense of achievement when my gigs go well as well as a sense of happiness and motivation from the crowd. I find that extremely rewarding.

What are your hobbies outside DJing? 

Cooking and travelling
